Getting Best Results

In order for your route to be tracked accurately you need to be using an iPhone 3G, which uses a real GPS receiver. If you use a 2G (aluminum back) phone your route will be cell tower triangulated. No route tracking is available on the iPod Touch. Additionally, ensure that you're using a recent version of the iPhone firmware and that your iPhone isn't obstructed (e.g not in a backpack or a fanny pack.)

Getting Best Battery Life

In order for your route to be tracked accurately you need to be using an iPhone 3G, which uses a real GPS receiver. If you use a 2G (aluminum back) phone routing will not work as your location can only be very roughly approximated. No route tracking is available on the iPod Touch. Additionally, ensure that you're using a recent version of the iPhone firmware and that your iPhone isn't obstructed (e.g not in a backpack or a fanny pack.)

How do I listen to music without interrupting my workout?

As a third party application, iMapMy can't run in the background, however the iPod application can. Before you start your workout select a playlist you like, than start the iMapMy application. If you want to control your music without leaving iMapMy under your iPhone settings go to "General" and then "Home Button" and ensure that "IPod Controls" is enabled, now when you're in iMapMy tap the home button twice and your iPod controls (if music is playing) without disrupting your workout. Alternatively you can quit the application by pressing the home button, opening iPod, than restarting the application and choosing "resume" from the prompt when you tab over to record.

Can iMapMy run in the Background?

No, Apple does not permit non-Apple applications from running in the background, however your data is not lost when the application closes. To resume from where you ended just relaunch iMapMy and tab over to record, and at the prompt select "Resume."

Why is my route inaccurate? Why are my distances off?

For best results you must use a 3G iPhone, no other device has a true GPS, which is essential to collecting accurate data. However, even the hardware GPS in 3G iPhone's is not perfectly accurate and may deviate or even drop significant amounts of data. This is a limitation of the iPhone hardware, however you can improve reception by not obstructing the phone (e.g. don't keep it in a backpack of fanny pack). Also note that tall buildings or natural formations will disrupt the signal resulting in erroneous or dropped points, therefore if you're using iMapMy in a large metropolitan area you may need to edit the route on mapmyfitness.com.

Does this work in the 2G? iPod Touch?

Recording functionality is not fully available if you are not using an 3G iPhone. If you're using a 2G iPhone your location will be approximately triangulated, if you're using an iPod Touch then your location can't even be estimated. However, all functionality under the "My Training" tab will be fully usable regardless of device. An 3G iPhone is required as it is the only device in the family which has true GPS.

How do I enable Voice Prompts?

Voice prompts (or Voice Feedback) can be enabled under the settings navigation tab; you can select to have your prompts based off time, distance, and by touching the screen.

How do I Pause?

If you need to pause your route in progress simply hit "stop," you can then resume by clicking "resume" on the prompt. If you need to exit the application when a route is in progress just leave by clicking the menu button. When you reenter the application you will be prompted to resume your route. If you receive a call you will be exited from the application, be sure to restart iMapMy and select "resume" to continue tracking.

What do I do if I can't save?

Make sure that you have an Internet connection when saving, if there is no internet connection available close the application and reopen selecting "save" at the popup dialog when internet is available. If your iPhone shows that you have an Internet connection but you can't save follow the above steps of restarting and trying to save.

iMapMy crashes whenever I enter my login details, what do I do?

In some instances it is possible for the iMapMy application to crash immediately after entering your login details. We believe this bug has been introduced by an API change and are working to fix it. Fortunately, the application will remember your login details, and will work properly on restart, there is no need to reenter your login details again.
